Gross pay is an employee’s total earnings for a pay period before any deductions. It includes basic salary, housing, transport and every other allowance, plus overtime, bonuses or arrears paid in that period.
PAYE is worked out from annual gross pay. Pension and NHF are worked out on parts of it: pension on at least basic, housing and transport, and NHF on basic salary alone. That is why payslips should show each part of gross pay separately.
