Query letter

A query letter is a formal written request asking an employee to explain an alleged breach of rules or misconduct, usually within a set time. In Nigerian workplaces it is normally the first step in a disciplinary process.

A query letter is a formal written request asking an employee to explain an alleged breach of rules or misconduct, usually within a set time. In Nigerian workplaces it is normally the first step in a disciplinary process.

A good query states the allegation and the evidence, the rule or policy it breaches, and the deadline and person for the reply. It should not decide the outcome. Giving the employee the allegation in writing and a chance to answer is part of a fair process before any disciplinary decision.
